Sponsor Profile - YBP Library Services

Editor's note: This is the second in a series of short articles featuring profiles of organizations that support ALCTS. Vendor profiles are a benefit of sponsorship at the Incunabula Level and do not represent an endorsement of the services or products offered by a company.

YBP Library Services, the academic division of Baker & Taylor, provides books and services to scholarly and research institutions. The company, originally named "Yankee Book Peddler," was founded in 1971 in the village of Contoocook, New Hampshire, as a university press bookseller to libraries in New England. Today, with Contoocook still the company's home base, YBP ships books and other materials, with supporting collection management and technical services, to libraries in North America and around the world.

In 1998, YBP acquired Lindsay and Howes, a British bookseller based in Godalming, Surrey, England. Like YBP, Lindsay and Howes has a strong commitment to customer service and is dedicated to selling U.K. and other English-language books to academic libraries worldwide.

Baker & Taylor, YPB's parent company since 1999, is based in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been a vendor to libraries for over 179 years, and is a well-known name not only in library vending, but also in retail bookselling and in the supply of music, videos, and DVDs.
