The ALCTS Board recently passed the following memorial resolution honoring Marilyn Norstedt, who died in March 2003.
Whereas, Marilyn Norstedt, an esteemed librarian and valued member of the serials cataloging community, died at the age of sixty-seven on March 6, 2003, in Montgomery, Virginia; and
Whereas, Her career at Newman Library, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, encompassed a number of positions, particularly Head of Serials Cataloging, and included significant contributions to the development of the institution's online library system; and
Whereas, Her expertise in the area of computerized cataloging led her to service as an exchange librarian to Massie University in Palmerston North, New Zealand, and to the National Agricultural Library in Tirana, Albania; and
Whereas, She was an active participant of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, and particularly of the Serials Section, serving as chair of the Bowker/Ulrich's Serials Librarianship Award Committee, as well as a member of many sections and divisions of the American Library Association; and, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services on behalf of its members recognizes Marilyn Norstedt's contributions to the profession of librarianship and her service to the Association; and, be it further
Resolved, That this Association expresses its sincere sympathy to her husband, Dr. Johann Norstedt, and to the members of her family.
