Ross W. Atkinson has been chosen Academic/Research Librarian of the Year by the Association for College and Research Libraries. Atkinson, who recently concluded a three year term as the ALCTS Division Councilor (our official representative to ALA Council), is an active participant in ALCTS activities: his previous service includes chairing CMDS Chief Collection Development Officers Discussion Group, and serving as a member at large on the RTSD Board 1986-88. He is also active in committees of the Center for Research Libraries and the Research Libraries Group. The award committee chair, Susan K. Nutter, noted "Ross Atkinson is arguably the foremost thinker in collection management in libraries today."
Atkinson is presently Associate University Librarian for Collections at Cornell University. He holds a B.A. in German from University of the Pacific, M. A. and PhD degrees in Germanic Languages and Literatures from Harvard University, and an M.S. in Library Science from Simmons College. The award will be presented at a ceremony and reception during the ALA Annual Conference in Toronto, Monday, June 23, 2003 at 4:30 p.m. Check your conference programs so we can be there to honor Ross!
