Committee vacancies occur from time to time for any number of reasons. Vacancies usually occur because: a committee member wishes to resign as a member, a committee member dies, or a committee member is asked to resign. If a committee member wishes to resign, the committee chair should be notified as soon as possible after the decision is made.
When a vacancy arises, the committee chair notifies the appropriate appointing officer and recommends a course of action with a possible replacement, if necessary. The appointing officer will weigh the factors and act upon the recommendation. Recommendations for action: filling the vacancy through the expiration of the term or leaving the vacancy vacant until the next appointment cycle.
