Young Adult Literature Symposium Stipend

YALSA’s Young Adult Literature Symposium Stipend will enable two qualified recipients to attend the symposium, which will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, November 7-9, 2008 at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel.

Two stipends up to $1,000 each will be awarded as follows: the first stipend is to be awarded to a library worker who works directly with young adults; the second is to be awarded to a student enrolled in an ALA Accredited MLS program (enrollment must be current as of Nov. 7, 2008) with a focus on serving young adults in a library setting.

Applications must be received in the YALSA office by May 1, 2008 via email to yalsa@ala.org.

Requirements for Applicants:

Have a YALSA Personal membership
One to ten years of experience serving teenagers in a professional library setting (for library worker applicants) or enrollment in an ALA-accredited MLS program (for student applicants; enrollment must be current as of Nov. 7, 2008)
Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Application Process:
Completed applications must be sent to yalsa@ala.org by midnight, May 1, 2008. Each application shall include a completed form and a current resume (incomplete applications will not be considered). Supporting statements from a professor or employer must be emailed separately and received by the same date. Be sure your name and “supporting statement” appear in the subject line.

Candidate's commitment to young adult library services
Candidate’s desired learning outcomes for attending the conference
Candidate’s financial and professional development needs
Strength of supporting statement
