YALSA creates Young Adult Nonfiction Award
Beginning in 2010, YALSA will name an annual winner of the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults.
The award will honor the best nonfiction book published for young adults (ages 12-18) during a November 1 – October 31 publishing year. The award winner will be announced annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting Youth Media Awards, with a shortlist of up to five titles named the first week of December. The award will be presented at ALA Annual Conference.
“There is no national award to recognize nonfiction books for teens,” said 2007-2008 YALSA President Paula Brehm-Heeger. “With the growing number of outstanding nonfiction works being published for young adults, the time is certainly right to establish an award that will highlight the best in this expanding field of titles. YALSA is always on the cutting edge of teen literature and this is just another example of how we are there leading the way for other professionals to find out what's exciting and new that will help them serve their teens!” See the Policies and Procedures.
