DTV Toolkit

The National Association of Broadcasters, with whom ALA has joined as a part of the DTV Transition Coalition, has put together an excellent educational toolkit for librarians. The toolkit includes several useful links and is well worth bookmarking.

How to Prepare Your Community for the Transition to Digital Television (DTV)

A law passed by Congress in 2006 will dramatically impact the way your community views television, starting in 2009.

Television will change dramatically on February 17, 2009, when all full-power television stations across the country complete the federally mandated transition from analog to digital television (DTV) broadcasting. And while consumers have much to gain – including more free channels and crystal-clear pictures and sound – more than 34 million households that watch television using antennas risk losing their reception unless they take the easy step to upgrade. Many of these residents visit your library for information and resources.

Your library has a unique platform to inform and educate consumers about the DTV transition. To help you, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has developed multiple resources that explain the different facets of the transition and its impact on the residents you serve. We hope that you find these resources useful in spreading the word among consumers, so that no viewer risks losing television reception when the switch occurs. If you have further questions or need additional resources, please visit DTVAnswers.com or contact Vinnie Mascarenhas at VMascarenhas@nab.org.

Sincerely,

David K. Rehr
