Isadore Gilbert Mudge Award sponsored by the Gale Cengage Learning

An annual cash award of $5,000 and a citation to an individual who has made a distinguished contribution to reference librarianship. (In 2001, the cash award was changed from $1,500.) This contribution may include an imaginative and constructive program in a particular library, authorship of a significant book or articles in the reference field, creative and inspirational teaching, active participation in professional associations devoted to reference services, or in other noteworthy activities which stimulate reference librarians to more distinguished performance. Sponsor: Gale Cengage Learning. (Established 1958)

The jury is comprised of three to five RUSA members who have a wide and long-term familiarity with librarians and their accomplishments, and who represent different geographical areas. Term of service is two years. Consecutive terms are prohibited. Nominees will be reviewed in a closed meeting of the committee during Midwinter.

To nominate an individual, write a letter of nomination explaining why the individual is deserving of this recognition and citing specific achievements. Each nomination packet must include three to five letters of recommendation, a copy of the nominee’s résumé or curriculum vitae, and any other appropriate documentation. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Nomination materials must be received no later than December 15.

Send nominations to the award committee. Addresses for the chair and members can be obtained via this link.
