Find out what equipment you should always have on hand and try an interactive wilderness survival simulator. Gr. 3–8.
- Gary Paulsen’s Web page, at http://www.randomhouse.com/features/garypaulsen/, features information about Paulsen’s books and his life; don’t miss the “New Adventures” page containing wilderness survival tips. Gr. 4–8.
- Ways of Knowing Trail, at http://www.brookfieldzoo.org/pagegen/wok/ways_index.html, is an interactive game that allows you to take an environmental walk with four local children as your guides. As you explore the Ituri Forest in central Africa, you encounter wildlife, use a compass and map to find your way, and make choices about eating local delicacies. Will you make your way to Epulu or find yourself walking in circles? Gr. 4–8.
