Baker & Taylor teams with ALA's Booklist on unique online effort

CHICAGO--Ordering selected materials suddenly gets easier for libraries when a unique functionality between online products Booklist Online and Title Source™ 3 from Baker & Taylor launches in late March.

Baker & Taylor, the world's largest distributor of book, video and music products to public libraries, and Booklist, the most trusted source of recommended-only reviews for libraries of all kinds for more than 100 years, have collaborated in developing a unique online bridge. Title Source customers may now click on a list of selected titles built into Booklist Online and place their orders directly into Title Source 3 without having to navigate out of Booklist Online.

Booklist and Baker & Taylor each offer comprehensive and exclusive collection development services and tools to libraries. “This partnership makes a lot of sense,” says Booklist Editor and Publisher, Bill Ott. “We share the goals of freeing up time for library staffs, in Booklist's case by making the selection process more efficient with our 8,000-plus recommendations each year, and in Baker & Taylor's by using cutting-edge development to make the online ordering process quicker and easier.”

“We are pleased to offer our customers an exciting new method of purchasing key titles that provides a level of efficiency never before available,” said George Coe, president, Institutional Markets at Baker & Taylor. “We couldn't be more pleased to partner with ALA's Booklist on this unique online collection development collaboration.”

Booklist Online is a powerful collection development tool offering more than 120,000 recommended-only reviews of adult, youth, media and reference titles, with more than 8,000 new reviews added each year. Its robust collection-development benefits include multiple points of access through an advanced search function that allows filtering by many different criteria; a list-building function that allows downloading, printing, saving, modifying and sharing; and a “saved searches” function for successful searches.

Title Source 3 is Baker & Taylor's comprehensive online collection development tool that offers users customizable title selection features and efficient ordering capabilities. With daily updates to the database of more than 5 million book, movie, music and video game titles, Title Source 3 provides the most accurate and timely information available to libraries. This state-of-the-art tool is designed to help streamline the collection development and acquisitions process for your library.

The new functionality will launch at the Public Library Association conference in Minneapolis, March 26-28, where attendees are invited to see demos or try it for themselves on the exhibit floor at Booklist (booth # 1535). To learn more about Title Source 3 and the connection with Booklist Online, visit Baker & Taylor at booth # 601.
