LAMA seeks "Best of Show" award entries


Give your outstanding public relations material the publicity it deserves by entering LAMA’s annual “Best of Show” awards competition.

Sponsored by the Swap & Shop Committee of the Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) Public Relations and Marketing Section, the competition recognizes the very best in public relations materials produced by libraries during the previous calendar year.

A team of experts in librarianship, public relations and marketing will judge the promotional materials. Winning entries will be on display, and winners will be recognized during the Swap and Shop program “Hot Ideas for Cool PR,” from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 29, during the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.

Libraries of all types and sizes (entries in each category are grouped by the size of the sponsoring library) are invited to submit promotional materials produced between January and December of 2007. Judging in all categories will be based on content, originality, design, format and effectiveness.

Original print materials may be submitted in any of the following categories: annual reports; bibliographies/booklists; newsletters and calendars of events; fundraising materials; children's summer reading club materials; young adult summer reading club materials; adult and family reading club materials; printed materials promoting Web sites; special events and programs; and services/orientation/policy materials.

Three electronic categories are also available, including two new video categories (videos 30 seconds and under; videos 31 seconds to 5 minutes) and the home page category.

Entries must be postmarked no later than April 4. Competition information and entry forms are available from the LAMA home page, http://www.ala.org/lama, or by contacting Sally Lederer at sally@melsa.org.

Swap & Shop, in its 34th year as a part of the ALA Annual Conference, features free samples of library public relations materials from all types and sizes of libraries that are available for attendees to take home.
