New ACRL Title: Practical Pedagogy for Library Instructors

CHICAGO – The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is pleased to announce a new publication, “Practical Pedagogy for Library Instructors: 17 Innovative Strategies to Improve Student Learning.” Edited by Douglas Cook and Ryan L. Sittler, it gathers 17 practical case studies using unique instructional methodologies framed by sound pedagogical theory.

As the degree and user-centered focus of information literacy and library instruction increase there is a need for new approaches to teaching. Many librarians come from disciplines other than education and seek to upgrade their skills in the area of instruction. This practical casebook is an excellent tool for librarians who have had little formal training in education. Cases included cover a broad spectrum of educational theories, from behavioral to cognitive to constructivist. Each chapter is grounded in the education and library literature and explores the potential of using pedagogical approaches which closely match instructional aims.

“Practical Pedagogy for Library Instructors” is available for purchasethrough the ALA Online Store (http://www.alastore.ala.org) and by telephone order at (866) 746-7252 in the U.S. or (770) 442-8633 for international customers. The title will also be available for purchase in the ALA Bookstore at the 2008 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim.
