ACRL and ALA to present joint campus advocacy program at ACRL’s 13th National Conference

CHICAGO – The University Library Section of the Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL) and the American Library Association (ALA) Advocacy Institute will present a workshop titled “Campus Advocacy: Involving All Staff in Influencing Campus Dynamics,” during ACRL’s 13th National Conference in Baltimore. The program will take place on Friday, March 30, 2007, from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Attendees of this program will learn how advocacy for all library staff is a critical component of success and how familiarity with trends in higher education and campus planning, communications and resource allocation can substantially benefit academic libraries and how to develop an individual advocacy action plan.

Presenters include Camila Alire, dean emerita, University Libraries, University of New Mexico and Colorado State University; James Klumpp, professor, Department of Communication, University of Maryland; and Ann Viles, coordinator, Reference/Instruction, Appalachian State University.

The program is free to all pre-registered attendees of ACRL's 13th National Conference. Although the program is currently full, a waiting list will be available at the meeting room onsite. For more details, visit www.acrl.org/baltimore.

The Advocacy Institute is coordinated by the Advocacy Institute Task Force of the ALA Public Awareness Committee in cooperation with The Association for Library Trustees and Advocates (ALTA), The Chapter Relations Committee, The Committee on Legislation, and Friends of Libraries USA (FOLUSA).
