SEATTLE—The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is pleased to announce Katina Parthemos Strauch as this year’s recipient of the Louis Shores-Greenwood Publishing Group Award.
The Louis Shores-Greenwood Publishing Group Award is a citation and $3000 cash award given to an individual reviewer, group, editor, review medium or organization to recognize excellence in the reviewing of books and other library materials. The award recipient is selected for his or her significant achievement related to a reviewing process that helps librarians make selections and collection development decisions.
“Over years, Katina has demonstrated her commitment to assisting librarians in making informed decisions in the area of collection development and maintenance,” said Deborah Costa, award committee chair.
“In 1980, Katina founded the Charleston Conference which provides a forum for librarians, publishers and vendors to discuss important issues to all participants. In 1989, she launched Against the Grain, a journal aimed at news about libraries, publishers, book jobbers, and subscription agents. In 1999, Katina helped to establish the Charleston Advisor, another online source that evaluates web products. Because of her innovative approach to reviewing materials, it is the Committee’s pleasure to honor Katina Parthemos Strauch,” added Costa.
