Register for YALSA's Midwinter Gaming Extravaganza

CHICAGO -Attendees at the American Library Association's (ALA) Midwinter Meeting can check out the latest and greatest in video, tabletop and role-playing games at the third annual Midwinter Gaming Extravaganza on Friday, Jan. 11, announced the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the fastest-growing division of ALA. The Gaming Extravaganza is sponsored by YALSA's Teen Tech Week(tm) and Dungeons & Dragons, the 2008 Teen Tech Week Corporate Sponsor. Games are being provided compliments of Game Crazy.

The Gaming Extravaganza is also the official kickoff event for Teen Tech Week 2008, to be held March 2-8. Experienced gamers, beginners and everyone in between will find something new in the world of online, video, role-playing and tabletop games. Participants will:

  • Network with other young adult librarians over refreshments.
  • See demonstrations and play video, role-playing and tabletop games currently popular with teens.
  • Hear from teens about what's hot and what's not in gaming.
  • Learn about machinima and how to get it started in your library.
  • Vote on submissions in YALSA's first Create Your Own Avatar contest.

Tickets cost $40, and you are not required to register for Midwinter to attend this event. To buy tickets and find out more about YALSA's Gaming Extravaganza, visit www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/midwinter.cfm.

For 50 years, YALSA has been the world leader in selecting books, videos and audio books for teens. For more information about YALSA or for lists of recommended reading, viewing and listening, go to www.ala.org/yalsa/booklists, or contact the YALSA office by phone, 800-545-2433, ext. 4390; or e-mail: yalsa@ala.org.
