RUSA selects Doris Ann Sweet to receive ‘My Favorite Martian Award’

CHICAGO — Doris Ann Sweet, associate director, Public Services, Simmons College Libraries, Boston, is the 2006 recipient of the Machine-Assisted Reference Section Recognition Certificate, also known as the ‘My Favorite Martian Award.’

The Machine-Assisted Reference Section (MARS), a section of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), administers the award. It is given to an individual to recognize excellence in service to MARS.

“Doris Ann was chosen enthusiastically by her colleagues because of her many years of service to MARS,” said Mary Popp, chair of MARS. “She knows exactly where MARS is going and how to get a variety of input about courses of action.”

Mary Popp added, “Doris Ann is an outstanding recruiter for our section and has brought us many new members who have gone on to be active participants. I salute her for her devotion and her many contributions to MARS and hope that others of us can follow in her footsteps.”

The certificate will be presented at the MARS Chair's Program, “Who’s Out There and What Are They Doing?” on June 25, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., during the 2006 ALA Annual Conference held in New Orleans.

RUSA, an ALA division, is responsible for stimulating and supporting excellence in the delivery of general library services and materials to adults, and the provision of reference and information services, collection development, and resource sharing for all ages, in every type of library.
