CHICAGO - The Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) Publishing is pleased to announce the publication of five new spring titles:

"Community, Collaboration and Collections: the Writings of Ross Atkinson"

Edited by Robert Alan and Bonnie MacEwan, with an introduction by Sarah Thomas

Ross Atkinson (1945-2006) was the associate librarian for collections at Cornell University and for more than 20 years was a leading figure in the collection development movement. His essays and writings on the changing character of library collections have influenced and inspired a generation of librarians.

Alan and MacEwan and their colleagues had the challenging task of selecting 25 articles that best represent Ross Atkinson's philosophy and the diversity and vision of his scholarship.

"Community, Collaboration and Collections: the Writings of Ross Atkinson," (ISBN: 0-8389-8361-8) costs $75 (ALA member price: $67).

"The Preservation Manager's Guide to Cost Analysis"

Edited by Elise Calvi, Liz Dube, Yvonne Carignan, and Whitney Pape

Eagerly anticipated by preservation managers and educators alike, this brand-new guide clearly defines and describes the role of cost analysis in preservation management. The authors use real world examples to illustrate how and when to apply cost analysis methodologies that will help preservation managers to plan effectively and to make persuasive cases to resource allocators. An understanding of cost analysis methods, coupled with a clear understanding of the activity under study, will position preservation managers to conduct cost analyses in support of a range of management objectives.

"The Preservation Manager's Guide to Cost Analysis" (ISBN: 0-8389-8365-0) costs $47 (ALA member price: $42).

"Managing Electronic Resources: Contemporary Problems and Emerging Issues"

Edited by Pamela Bluh and Cindy Hepfer

The papers in this publication, a number of which were first presented at the 2003 and 2004 midwinter symposia on managing electronic resources, describe present conditions and prospective options for dealing with electronic resources. Electronic resources in their many guises have become virtually ubiquitous in library collections. Ordering, crafting agreements with publishers, aggregators, and vendors, and establishing gateways and portals to access these materials continue to interest librarians. As the details associated with electronic resources proliferate, librarians urgently need to identify and introduce practical solutions for managing and facilitating access to these collections.

"Managing Electronic Resources: Contemporary Problems and Emerging Issues" (ISBN 0-8389-8366-9) costs $52 (ALA member price: $46).

"From Catalog to Gateway: Charting a Course for Future Access"

Edited by Bill Sleeman and Pamela Bluh

The book is a collection of eighteen planning briefs and position papers produced as a series by the ALCTS Catalog Form and Function Committee between 1994 and 2001. Focused on what librarians could do to facilitate users' ability to identify and access the myriad resources that were just then becoming available, this work answers the question of what the library catalog should be and what it ought to represent for libraries in the 21st century. The series of articles appeared in ALCTS periodicals in print and online and are now often difficult to obtain. This title gathers those far-reaching efforts to create a guide to where the library catalog has been and how librarians might respond to the challenges facing the online public access catalog of the future.

"From Catalog to Gateway: Charting a Course for Future Access" (ISBN 0-8389-8326-X) costs $54 (ALA member price is $48).

"Knowledge without Boundaries: Organizing Information for the Future"

Edited by Michael A. Chopey, with an introduction by Sally C. Tseng

With a century of information-organizing expertise, librarians have been a logical choice for helping to bring order to the chaos of networked information.
