Clifford A. Lynch receives 2004 Lippincott Award
CHICAGO-Clifford A. Lynch is the 2004 recipient of the American Library Association (ALA) Lippincott Award, which recognizes an individual for distinguished service to the profession of librarianship. The award was founded by the late Joseph W. Lippincott and consists of a citation and $1,000 donated by Lippincott's grandson, Joseph W. Lippincott, III.
Lynch is the Executive Director of the Coalition for Network Information (CNI) in Washington, and adjunct professor at Berkeley's School of Information Management and Systems. Lynch currently serves on the National Digital Preservation Strategy Advisory Board of the Library of Congress.
Lynch has authored several publications, articles, book chapters and has given numerous talks, presentations, and interviews. In both his writing and his speaking he challenges librarians to think about the exciting new services librarians can offer people to meet their current and future needs rather than bemoaning the loss of traditional services and traditional users.
"The Joseph W. Lippincott Award Jury enthusiastically and unanimously has selected Mr. Lynch, to receive the 2004 Award for his distinguished service to the professions of librarianship and information technology," said Charles Kratz, award chair. "As the director of the Coalition for Networked Information Lynch is known for his energy, enthusiasm, and the creativity he has demonstrated in his work, presentations, research, and publications in information technology and networked information.
The Lippincott Award will be presented Tuesday, June 29, during the ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, Fla.
