Listening to the Prairie: Farming in Nature's Image
Although every American depends in some way on the central region of North America for food and fiber, few give much thought to where and how their food is produced, or to the economic, ecological and social costs of production. Listening to the Prairie: Farming in Nature's Image is a traveling exhibition for public and academic libraries that closely examines this region and it's transformation from grassland plains to cropland and grazing pastures, making it one of the world's most productive agricultural regions.
Listening to the Prairie is sponsored by the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) of the Smithsonian Institution and the American Library Association's Public Programs Office. The exhibit and tour are funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
