Message Sheet I: Staff, Trustees, Friends

Goal: The library "family" will understand the value of library advocacy and be enthusiastic supporters of the campaign.

What do we want the audience to feel? Think? Do?

  • I have an important role to play in winning support for our library.
  • The public library is a "best buy" for taxpayers.
  • Promote greater awareness of library services and needs.

Key message: Library advocacy begins at home. Everyone on our staff has a role to play.

Why it is important to them:

During this time of increased competition, budget cutbacks and the evolving role of libraries, it is essential to raise public awareness about what libraries provide and to fill the information gap about their value. The "smartest card" campaign provides messages and tools to help educate our community.

Three supporting points:

  • This campaign is all about you and the services you make possible. It can’t succeed without you.
  • Our library may not have a huge advertising budget but one thing we do have are thousands of people coming through our doors.
  • To be successful, we must deliver a focused, consistent message.
