PLA "Smartest Card" Campaign
State Campaign Network
Join here!
A state network of campaign coordinators met for the first time during the ALA 2004 Annual Conference in Orlando. If your state would like to name a coordinator, please contact Barbara Macikas at 800 545 2433, ext. 5025 or bmacikas@ala.org.
Goal: To make the library card the most valued and used card in every wallet!
Mission:
- Make sure public libraries in your state know about this campaign and keep them informed of new developments.
- Organize outreach to "influentials" in your state, i.e. plan and publicize a library card presentation to the governor during Library Card Sign-up Month in September.
- Provide feedback to PLA on the "Smartest Card" campaign, how it is being used in your state and suggestions for new tools and materials.
What you can do:
As a member of the PLA State Campaign Network, you will receive regular campaign updates and samples of promotional materials. Some suggested activities:
1. Spread the word! Let libraries in your state know about the campaign Web site and tools available for local libraries.
2. Sponsor a statewide library card sign-up campaign.
3. Encourage local libraries to conduct their own campaigns and to enter PLA competitions and submit information for the PLA website.
4. Help local libraries promote the campaign to internal audiences—launch a "library family" motivation effort. Share what you do with PLA.
5. Help local libraries gather and use statistics to demonstrate their value to their communities.
6. Share the campaign tools with public libraries and provide support for development of local library marketing plans
7. Conduct research to gather information on the marketing/communication activities, needs and interests of public libraries in your state.
8. Sponsor workshops to help library staff learn how to do a marketing communication plan, how to develop and deliver a powerful message and how to motivate their staffs.
