Collection Management Meeting Highlights

Meeting Highlights

ALA Midwinter Meeting 2005, Boston, MA

Mary Wallace, Chair

Topics of discussion:

  • Add to the ALA website a weblography
  • Starting a collection management listserv
  • Discussed previously submitted PLA program proposal-Boston 2006
  • Aired ideas for ALA 2006 program, no action taken, deadline is May 1.
  • Discussed ALA Strategic Plan

In old business, we discussed setting up a "Collection Management in Public Libraries" Listserv. Mollie Pharo, co-chair of the Collection Managers discussion group, will help provide a list of potential subscribers. Then, the committee talked about the webliographies we began working on at Annual last year. Each webliography will focus on a different issue related to collection management. These resources will be hosted on the PLA website. We made assignments and set an initial deadline.

In new business, we discussed our program plans for PLA and ALA 2006. Then, we spent the remainder of our time reviewing "ALA: Ahead to 2010."
