During National Library Week, libraries of all types will host special gaming programs in support of a new literacy initiatve called Gaming @ your library.
Historically, libraries have provided print resources, but as new formats have been introduced, libraries have included them in their collections. Videogames are one more format, one that has grown in use and popularity during the last 30 years.
Interesting gaming facts:
Adults of both sexes play games over seven hours a week
The average age for players is 33
25% of game players are over 50 years old
38% of game players are female
The Burlington (Iowa) Public Library held its first game night Friday, March 7. About 30 teens signed up to come to the library and play video games like Dance Dance Revolution (DDR), Guitar Hero, and Wii Sports.
