Round Tables

Important Message: As part of the Association-wide website redesign, new content will not be added to the Round Table Coordinating Assembly website from August 1 to September 1. To find information during this period, please contact Danielle Alderson at 312.280.3213.

Establishment of an ALA Round Table is authorized by Council on petition by at least 100 members of the Association who are interested in the same field of librarianship not within the scope of any division. Round Tables are membership groups and may charge dues, issue publications (with the approval of the ALA Publications Committee), and affiliate with regional, state or local groups with the same interests. Round Tables offer programs at the ALA Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference. Round Tables do not have staff; staff liaisons are provided through the ALA Offices. The round tables with Personal Membership equal to or greater than one percent of ALA's total Personal Membership shall be entitled to elect one councilor each, and the remaining round tables jointly shall be entitled to one councilor to be elected for a term of three years by the members of the respective round tables. A coucilor elected under this Article shall continue to serve without prejudice to any change that might occur in size of the membership of their round table. For the purpose of this section, the Personal Membership of each round table and the Personal Membership of ALA shall be fixed as of August 31st of each year. Article IV. Council. Section 2 (d) The Round Table Coordinating Assembly provides a mechanism for information sharing among ALA round tables.

Round Table Coordinating Assembly

This assembly acts as a conduit for information among Round Tables and various units and offices of ALA. The assembly consists of the chair and chair-elect of each round table (see RTCA Representatives below). Each round table has a staff liaision (see link below).
