COMMITTEE ON ACCREDITATION (standing)
History: Created by the ALA Council in June 1956; formerly the Board of Education for Librarianship, which was established in 1924.
Charge: To be responsible for the execution of the accreditation program of ALA and to develop and formulate standards of education for librarianship for the approval of the Council.
Membership: Twelve members to include two public members, with the Chairperson to be appointed annually from among the Committee members. The President-Elect will appoint two regular members for one four-year term and one public member for a two-year term in uneven years. The President-Elect will appoint three regular members for one four-year term and one public member for a two-year term in even years. Members may not be re-appointed once they have served.
