Purpose, Membership, and Duties

Purpose. To provide for continuing education in geospatial librarianship through organizing sessions at ALA conferences, through publications, and via the World Wide Web. The Committee may also undertake projects to study and encourage education in geospatial librarianship at library schools and in other venues.

Membership. Committee consists of a Chair and three members and one non-voting representative from each of the following: ALA Standing Committee on Library Education, American Association of Library Schools, and the Working Group on Training for Map Librarianship of the Geography and Map Libraries Section of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA).

Duties. Chair is the MAGERT representative to the ALA Library Education Assembly. Also maintains contact with the three groups mentioned above by means of progress and activity reports; should survey the present status of education for map librarianship in the US and Canada and confer with the MAGERT Executive Board to decide on a topic for the continuing education program for the annual conference.
