IRRT INTERNATIONAL LIBRARIANS' ORIENTATION/MENTORING COMMITTEE
Statement of Role, Purpose, and Function
Organizes the orientation for international visitors at annual conference and works closely with the ALA International Relations Office to develop a mentoring program for annual conference.
2008 Activities
Description: Orientations in 2008 were held at both the Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference. This orientation featured an
introduction to the ALA Conference and the city of Anaheim for
international librarians and other attendees from abroad. ALA members
provided an overview of the conference, including recommended programs
and social activities. Attendees were able to learn about conference
transportation, the ALA's Exhibit Hall and the meanings of the ALA's
many acronyms. They also met mentors and representatives from ALA's
many divisions and round tables who help international librarians get
the most from the conference experience. (For international librarians
outside the U.S.).
2007 Activities
Description: This orientation featured an introduction to the ALA Conference and the city of Washington, DC for international librarians and other attendees from abroad. ALA members provided an overview of the conference, including recommended programs and social activities. Attendees learned about conference transportation, the ALA's Exhibit Hall and the meanings of the ALA's many acronyms. They also met mentors and representatives from ALA's many divisions and round tables who help international librarians get the most from the conference experience.
