Statement of Role, Purpose, and Function
To collect information about library professionals and libraries worldwide seeking to establish study visits and exchange programs; to disseminate information to librarians about opportunities to enrich and broaden their career experience and the library profession by developing intercultural perspectives; to share educational and cultural interests, achievements, and developments in libraries and thus assist in the development of the profession and of friendly and peaceful relations with countries throughout the world.

Elsevier Foundation is again offering grants for the Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries program

The Elsevier Foundation has again announced a call for grant proposals under its "Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries" program. The Foundation will provide grants to libraries in the developing countries and their supporting organizations for programs to enhance libraries’ capacity in the fields of science, technology and medicine -- through library training and education; library infrastructure, technology or information services; and digitization and preservation of information. The Foundation especially encourages proposals that support partnerships between libraries in the developing countries and institutions in the developed countries. Proposals must be submitted by September 15, 2008, and will be awarded at the end of the 2008 calendar year. |

Description:
What is it like to be a librarian in the European Union? Is it
different from the United States? What is it like for a librarian from
the States who wants to study or work there? What about the language
problems? Participants heard from librarians from several different
types of libraries, including public, academic and school libraries, in
Europe and from librarians from the United States who have spent time
in European libraries, and a public librarian from Germany.
