GLBTRT Newsletter Collection

Newsletter Project

Currently, Sara Marcus and David S. Vess of the GLBTRT Web Committee are leading an effort to establish a complete, digital collection of all our organization's Newsletters. This multi-year project will involve locating print versions of past newsletters, assessing both born digital and print Newsletters, building a thorough index, applying quality metadata and structure to the files and making them all available on the GLBTRT website. The work in this project may inform a future project to digitize historical documents of the Round Table.

What can you do? Start looking around your personal papers for any old GLBTRT materials. We will soon be putting out a call to membership to let our team borrow issues not online or in ALA Archives inventory. All scanning will be done by a professional vendor, likely the scanning services offered by the University of Illinois Library. After scanning, the documents could either be donated to the ALA Archive or returned at no expense to the owner. In early October, GLBTRT materials in the ALA Archives were accessed. The following is a rough inventory of what is available for us to have scanned. A more detailed list will soon be coming.

  • Gay Task Force News 1974-79
  • Gay Task Force News/Schedules 1981-1984
  • Conference Newsletters 1981 – 1985
  • Gay Task Force Newsletter, vol.1, No.3. Fall 1988
