GLBTRT Initiatives & Projects
Fundraising
The Fundraising Committee is always working to sustain the GLBTRT by securing funding beyond membership dues. Funds raised by the committee cover Round Table expenses and go towards the endowment for the Stonewall Book Awards. Donations are welcome and encouraged. Checks may be sent to the ALA/Development Office, 50 E. Huron Street, Chicago, IL 60611, made out to ALA, or you may charge your gift to your credit card. Note clearly that your donation is for the GLBTRT.
Newsletter Archive
Currently, members of the Web Committee are working towards establishing a complete online archive of all our organization's Newsletters. This multi-year project will involve locating print versions of past newsletters, assessing both born digital and print Newsletters, building a thorough index, applying quality metadata and structure to the files and making them all available on the GLBTRT website. The work in this project may inform a future project to digitize historical documents of the round table.
Partnerships
The External Relations Committee of the GLBTRT builds and sustains relationships with organizations outside of ALA. Currently, the Committee is working with our friends at GLSEN and PFLAG to explore ways our organizations can collaborate. The Committee is also exploring partnerships with the GLBT groups within sister library oranizations: MLA, SAA, SLA, and AALL. Targeted outcomes include programming, toolkit and other resource maintenance and development.
Programs
The GLBTRT has a long history of sponsoring programs at ALA's Annual Conferences. The Program Planning Committee of the GLBTRT is responsible for orchestrating these important events.
Rainbow Project
The Rainbow Project is a joint project of the GLBTRT and the Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) of the American Library Association. The Rainbow Project presents an annual bibliography of quality books with significant and authentic GLBTQ content, which are recommended for people from birth through eighteen years of age.
Stonewall Book Awards
Each year, we present the Stonewall Book Awards to the best books with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered themes. There are award categories for literature, non-fiction and youth works. Winning titles and honored books are announced at ALA Midwinter Meetings and the awards are presented at the Stonewall Book Award brunch at ALA Annual Conferences.
Website Updates
Over the Fall the Website committee will be working with GLBTRT Membership and Steering Committee to reshape and reorganize the structure and content of the organization's website. A web form will also be created for committee volunteers to streamline the volunteer process.
