Teen Read Week
Tips suggestions, program ideas and resources for participating in Teen Read Week, a national literacy initiative for young adults, ages 12-18. Ordering information for Teen Read Week products, including posters and bookmarks, is included.

Teen Tech Week
The Teen Tech Week web site has tips suggestions, program ideas and resources for participating.  This YALSA celebration is aimed at getting teens to use their libraries for the different technologies that are offered there, such as DVDs, databases, audiobooks, video games and more.

Teens' Top Ten
Teens vote each year during Teen Read Week on their favorite book to create an exciting nationwide list of books chosen for teens by teens as the best reads of the year.  Information about this project, current nominations and past winners are available.

TEACH-YAL

Purpose: For people currently teaching children's and young adult literature; a space for library school students, teachers, librarians, and others to discuss theory and practice and exchange ideas, syllabi, and information.

To subscribe and unsubscribe:

YALSA-BK

Purpose: This open list for book discussion invites subscribers to discuss specific titles, as well as other issues concerning young adult reading and young adult literature. Subscribers will also learn what has been nominated for Best Books for Young Adults, Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults and Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers and be able to discuss those books. Young adults, especially those who belong to book discussion groups, are also welcome to subscribe and to discuss books they are reading. 

Uses:

YALSA-LOCKDOWN

Purpose: To discuss issues unique to librarians working with incarcerated youth. This includes youth in juvenile halls, group homes, treatment centers, mental institutions, etc. The group will address issues such as working within several systems with differing values (probation, library, school departments, social services), issues of censorship within a structure that may or may not acknowledge ALA or guidelines, issues of providing services to youth with mental health issues, serious criminal charges, etc. Serving incarcerated teens presents unique issues and dilemmas for librarians. Many of these youth have no access to technology or hardback books, books on tape, etc due to security or other concerns. Many have adult interests and experiences but read from preschool to adult levels.
