Supporting Diversity Conference Stipend
This stipend allows two YALSA members with a diverse background to attend the American Library Association's Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif., June 26 – July 2, 2008. Each sponsorship recipient will receive up to $1,000 for conference expenses. The deadline for application is March 31, 2008. This stipend is administered by YALSA through funding from ALA’s Ahead to 2010 initiative as part of the YALSA Unity Diversity Initiative.
Requirements for Applicants
- Membership in YALSA (applicant must be a member by the application deadline)
- Diverse background (as defined by the ALA Diversity Counts report, which includes race, ethnicity, language background, sexual orientation, education, age, disability and economic status)
- Willingness to submit a summary of learning experiences gained from the conference by August 1st, 2008
Application Process
Completed applications (Word document) must be sent to yalsa@ala.org by midnight March 31, 2008. Each application shall include a completed form and a current resume (incomplete applications will not be considered).
Criteria for Selection
- Candidate's written justification for the scholarship in terms of diverse background and commitment to young adult services
- Candidate’s desired learning outcomes for attending the conference
- Candidate’s financial and professional development needs

Announcement of Winners
Winners will be notified by phone or email by the end of the business day on May 2, 2008.
