The Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section (STARS) brings together librarians and library staff involved with interlibrary loan, document delivery, remote circulation, access services, cooperative reference, cooperative collection development, remote storage, and other shared library services as well as publishers, producers, and suppliers of products and services which support resource sharing activities.

Welcome to STARS! I am honored to serve as your chair for the next year. The STARS section is dedicated to resource-sharing activities with members committed to sharing. We offer programs, continuing education, and networking opportunities to support resource-sharing practitioners.

STARS sponsored two programs at Annual Conference in Chicago 2009, “The Secret Life of our Data: Privacy in the Digital Age” and “Resource Sharing in the 21st Century: Beyond Books and Journals”. Both programs were well attended.

For Annual 2010, STARS has been approved for a Preconference and two programs. The Preconference, “Interlibrary Loan Statistics: What We Gather, How We Use It and Who We Provide It To ”, is being planned by the STARS Research and Statistics Committee. The program, “International Interlibrary Lending and Borrowing: Getting Started and Moving Forward” is being offered by the STARS International ILL committee and the CODES and STARS Cooperative Collection Development Committee is working on the program, “How Shared is Shared? Remote Storage and Cooperative Collection Building”. Watch for more about these programs in the future.

We continue to work on our web page and encourage you to visit for links to program announcements, the section brochure, and other information relevant to you.

STARS-L Listserv

The STARS-L listserv is a discussion group dedicated to issues relating to interlibrary loan, document delivery, remote circulation, access services, cooperative reference, cooperative collection development, remote storage, and other shared library services by members of RUSA-STARS. This list is only open to RUSA-STARS members.

There are two ways to subscribe to STARS-L:

1. Send an e-mail to sympa@ala.org
In the Subject line, put: SUBSCRIBE STARS-L YOUR NAME
For example: SUBSCRIBE STARS-L Jane Smith
Do not put anything in the body of the message

2. Go to the ALA Mailing Lists service http://lists.ala.org/wws
Click on "Closed Lists" or "View All Lists" and select stars-l@ala.org
Select "Subscribe" from the menu on the left
Enter your e-mail address and click on the "Submit" button

When your request to subscribe has been approved by the list owners, you will receive an e-mail welcome message.
