Web resources have been loosely grouped into general resources, resources from educational institutions and important associations.

About.com: Management

About.com, owned by the New York Times Company, provides a Management guide as a subset of the Business and Finance Channel. The essential section provides basic resources for new managers. Articles, reviews of products and resources as well as forums for discussing managerial issues provide information for persons with a variety of managerial experience.

Free Management Library

A very practical site, the Free Management Library website was redesigned in 2006. Over 260 subject categories are broadly grouped with information useful to small and large, for-profit and non-profit, new and well-established enterprises. The library is administered by personnel from Authenticity Consulting, LLC, but content links can be added by readers following the “Community Rules”. Links are provided for reference works, blog indices, tutorials and additional resources.

Work.com, a service provided by Business.com, targets small business owners by offering over 2,000 “How-to” guides. Management is divided into 21 topics. Guides are written by experts and evaluations and comments are offered by readers.

Managed by the Small Business Administration (SBA) this site has become “The Official Business Link to the U.S. Government”. A new initiative (2007) with industry leaders and trade associations will bring additional information sources to this portal. A number of business guides and links to state and local resources are provided.

Knowledge Management and Business Technology Management are the primary focuses for this site. Free registration is required to participate in forums and threaded discussions.

European Case Clearing House

Access to abstracts of case studies and, for a fee, access to the case studies, is provided by ecch for students, researchers and corporate trainers. Over 50,000 resources from over 30 academic institutions and associations around the world are updated with over 350 new entries each month.

CEOExpress provides quick access to a variety of business topics and resources through a very busy, text-heavy portal page. Four broad categories, Daily news and info, Business research, Office tools and travel and Break time provide links to hundreds of resources. Some resources are free, some offer recommendations and evaluations of resources and others are fee-based websites.

Harvard Business School: Working Knowledge (Leadership and Management)

Harvard Business School’s Working Knowledge site includes a number of business topic sections including Leadership and Management. Articles for practitioners are highlighted; working papers and podcasts are available. Searches can be made by topic or by industry. The “First Look” section gives readers a weekly post summarizing new case studies, working papers and other publications.

Knowledge@Wharton, the online business journal of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, provides articles free for 30 days, additional reading suggestions based on the selected article, podcasts with edited print transcripts, links to additional resources and free membership registration that enables receipt of the newsletter.

Arranged by general business disciplines, then by institutional name, the links access the individual institution’s web pages for content.

This website, from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, provides links to evaluated websites that deal with a variety of subjects grouped by Dewey Classification. Management is classed in 658. A synopsis is provided for each recommended site. Using the search feature, additional management resources can be found by entering terms like “management principles” or “management styles”.
