Gina Millsap, LLAMA President 2009-2010

Welcome to the Library Leadership and Management Association!  As LLAMA's president for 2009 -10 I am so pleased to have this opportunity to thank you for your interest in LLAMA.

You might have heard about or read a book called Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us by self-desribed “writer, speaker and agent of change” Seth Godin. Seth says what people really want is the ability to connect to each other and that the role of organizations like LLAMA and the American Library Association is to help them connect, find each other, give them a story to tell and something to talk about.

I can’t think of a better way to describe LLAMA and the inspiring and fun relationships it’s helped me build over the past 15 years.  Think of this way ---- you’re joining an engaging and energizing tribe of library leaders!

My most important job as president is to facilitate those connections, help create those stories and make sure that there’s always something to talk about.  This year we’re talking about positioning LLAMA to be the go-to division in ALA for leadership education, training, discussion and best/next practices.

It’s an exciting time to be a LLAMA member.  We’re evolving our website into a true web presence, are developing relationships and sharing information through ALA Connect and in addition to our popular and respected conference programs, we’re offering our first webinars on leadership and management.

We’re also the home for many professions that work with librarians and libraries.  You’ll have the opportunity to work and network with talented architects, designers and communication/ marketing and development/fund raising professionals.  And what makes us a tribe?  Our passion for libraries!

I want to hear from you – what you need from LLAMA and how we’re serving you.  I also encourage you to get involved.  Vice-President/President-Elect Gail Kennedy will be making appointments to LLAMA committees in the spring.  Consider volunteering to serve on one of our section or divisional committees.

Please browse through the LLAMA website for more information.  And again, thank you for joining the LLAMA tribe!
