Austin Community College Head Librarian (Job #0902008) Apply for this position by 07/31/2009
Reports to the Dean of Library Services. Manage and supervise faculty, staff, operations, budget, and resources of campus library in accordance with College, IRT (Instructional Resources and Technology), and Library Services (LS) policies and procedures.   Make recommendations and reports and actively participate in strategic planning, budget preparation and expenditure, assessment, facilities design and management, LS public relations and other areas as assigned. Participate in LS collection development, provide reference services, and online services. Participate in IRT, college-wide, and LS committees, and in particular serve on the Library Leadership Team. Develop and maintain library policies, procedures, and services and/or coordinate college-wide library responsibilities including reference, off-campus/extension services, information literacy, collection management, access services, library technology and web
presence.  Actively participate in subject specialty credentialing programs as appropriate. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues in college, local, state, regional and national academic library communities. Coordinate library activities with community agencies as appropriate. Other related duties may be assigned.

Experience with the Internet/World Wide Web, email, college/institutional and library systems in an automated workplace. Effective organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through. Ability to use with proficiency, personal computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, productivity databases, presentation design, and web-authoring/design. Must demonstrate creativity and innovation in the field, innovation in teaching, the integration of technology into teaching, service in the
profession and/or the community, sensitivity to, and knowledge of, a diverse student body, and understanding of the comprehensive mission and philosophy of community colleges. Ability to maintain an established work schedule. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to exercise tact and discretion.

Preferred: More than two years of experience managing a staff and services in a public service academic or community college library environment.

EDUCATION
Required: Masters in Library and Information Science from an ALA-Accredited Institution.
