GROUP: Library Consortia/Automated Systems Interest Group
CHAIR: Jon Mark Bolthouse
REPORTER: Jon Mark Bolthouse
EMAIL: jbolthou@uwc.edu
CONFERENCE: midwinter
MEETING: Interest Group business meeting
ATTENDEES: 12
CURRENT ACTIVITIES: The Library Consortia Automated Systems group met Sunday, January 22nd in San Antonio. Attendance was slightly lower than years past, at 12. Quite a few attendees mentioned that it was difficult to choose between the nearly 12 other LITA interest group meeting held at the same time and inquired about the meeting time change (in year's past, this group met from 2-4 on Sundays). I informed them of LITA's desire not to schedule around certain time slots.
During the meeting, most of the discussion was spent trying to organize a managed discussion in New Orleans around ERM issues in a consortia environment. A representative from Yale attended and talked about Yale's early experiences implementing the ERM solution from Ex Libris, Verde. Our hope is to find two or three other implementers of other systems (III, Endeavor, VLTS) who would be willing and able to talk in June.
Other topics of interest included discussions of the new NCSU redesigned OPAC (web layer) , RFID technologies, web services, cooperated digitization projects, and data "cross-walking:" merging disparate data from one system (ContentDM) to another (ILS system).
FUTURE ACTIVITIES: We plan to have a managed discussion in New Orleans concerning various ERM systems and their manageability within a consortia environment.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: One of our attendees reported that during the Bylaws committee meeting, it was stated that this group has been disbanded. Since we did meet, rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. I will look into the right persons to contact and fill out the appropriate paperwork as soon as possible. If anyone from LITA has the opportunity to read this, and can direct me to the proper persons, I would appreciate it.
Thank you, Jon Mark Bolthouse
