2005 Midwinter Meeting Minutes
Group: Internet Resources Interest Group
Chair: Matthew Calsada
Reporter: Matthew Calsada
Attendees: 17
CURRENT ACTIVITIES: The IRIG received all necessary signatures for Interest Group renewal. The renewal forms were submitted to M. Manoff of the Bylaws and Organization Committee.
The IRIG Web site has been fully transferred from external Web servers to the ALA Content Management System. The membership was reminded that materials from past programs are available on the web site.
Ideas for possible program topics were solicited. A program on RSS Feeds and possibly how they are used as content management systems seemed to be a popular topic. Electronic Resource Management also seemed like it would be an excellent topic to look at for the 2006 Annual conference. The creation of URL's for licensed resources as a possible program topic was also discussed. The membership felt that was a narrow topic that may target a small audience. The IG will consider a managed discussion for this topic if there is enough interest.
FUTURE ACTIVITIES: Federated searching brings the promise of offering the Google generation a single search box to simultaneously search multiple sources. Gain insights into the phenomenon of federated searching, and learn now a large library consortium, an academic library and a public library have implemented this technology.
