CHAIR: Edward Swanson

REPORTER: Anaclare Evans

CONFERENCE: Midwinter

MEETING: IG Business Session

ATTENDEES: 12

CURRENT ACTIVITIES:

Held Midwinter Update session featuring speakers from LC, OCLC, and an RDA Update. The program was well received. Power Point presentations from the speakers will be made available. There was particular interest in the harvesting of non-Roman alphabet headings and their import into authority records. This is a joint project between LC and OCLC. The valid heading will continue to be the Romanized form. The MARC-8 scripts will be selected in the first group. OCLC reported that they have created a separate index for genre heading during Fall of 2007. The index label is ge. A small number of new symbols will be supported. Manon Theroux is the liaison from ACIG to CC:DA. She presented on update on RDA describing the new organization and the draft of sections 2-4 &9. The new draft is 463 pages.

Power Point slides from the presentations will be made available.

FUTURE ACTIVITIES:

A program entitled "You Know FRBR But Do You Know FRAD" is being prepared for the Annual Conference in Anaheim. The speakers have yet to be determined but Marcia Zeng or Athena ???? from Kent State University or Lois Mai Chan from the University of Kentucky were suggested as possible speakers regarding FRASAR (related to subject headings). Glenn Patton, OCLC, or Mark Stewart, Library and Archives Canada were suggested for speakers relating to FRAD (names).

There is a need for updates at the annual meeting especially regrading the harvesting of non-Latin (Roman) script authority information. These reports should be brief. Power Point presentations are especially valuable.

We have our traditional time of Sunday from 1:30PM to 3:30PM. It was decided to have a business meeting slot which would immediately follow the program slot.

Future programs will focus on RDA related authority issues.

There will need to be an election of officers at the annual business meeting. The following offices will need to be elected: Vice Chair/Chair elect, and the at-large board members for Uniform titles and Local systems. The chair will call be nominees just prior to annual conference.
