LITA Committee and Interest Group Chairs Meeting
Saturday January 24, 2009

Only one meeting was held instead of a breakout of the separate groups.

Responsibilities of Committee chairs - Michelle Frisque

• Importance of submitting reports helps other know what committee is doing, challenges, documents progress. Each committee should have a Board liaison. Remember to sue COM Chairs list as a tool for improving communication.

LITA staff

• Melissa - passed out Tip Sheet
• Valerie - reminded people fop deadlines for meeting space – January 31, 2009
• Problem with lack of transparency in scheduling meetings- overlaps. Maybe a Google-docs approach would help. Use LITA wiki instead - it already exists, Zoe will work with Valerie

Assessment/Research

• LITA should be data driven. What do we need to do our work - survey or assessment? Passed out a survey to help Board understand our priorities

Education

• Revised charge sent to membership
• Programming for needs of membership. Differentiation in efforts of education committee and the Program planning Committee. Top Tech Trends feeds into this. They need content for time when ALA has a learning platform

PPC

• Planning process, online submissions, no need to meet with committee during midwinter, feedback will be provided online. Let LITA office know if you are doing a moderated discussion

LITA forum

• Programs can still be submitted through February 20, Will be in Salt Lake City "Open and Mobile"

Publications

• Experiencing continuity issue - lack of record of past work, efforts. How does LITA Pub Committee add value? TER may have run its course. What is the importance of LITA monographs? ITAL open access model - need for quality content.

IGs

• Orientation sheets on the LITA web
• Renewal every 3 years, use renewal form, not form for new IGs send to ByLaws committee
• Problems with website and lack of info for IG chairs
• Use LITA-L for communication, marketing etc.
• Question about scheduling - no conflict times and Tracks - tracks are set by ALA
• Could there be some sort of session with joint discussion in same room

Communications

• Mechanisms for communication, role of the Blog IG and Comm. chairs can post to LITA Blog
• Blog is easy to use and read; catch up on what is happening. No learning curve
