Accomplishments: Within LITA I am involved with several IGs,my most recent heavy involvement is with BIGWIG, and recently served as Web Coordinator for Committees on the Web Advisory Committee. Also, I attend as many LITA Board meetings as my ALA committees schedule permit. Within the ALA umbrella, I have been an active participant on several LITA related committees such as the Office for Information Technology Policy (OITP) Advisory Committee, the Joint COL/OITP Telecommunications Subcommittee, and I am currently bringing an additional LITA-flavored voice to ALA Council as a Councilor at Large. (Please vote for me on the Council ballot, too) I am also involved in tracking information technology policy, especially as it relates to academic technology, as an ACRL Legislative Advocate. Outside the ALA unbrella, several years ago I co-founded the Tennessee Digital Freedom Network (TNDF). TNDF successfully used direct citizen action and group lobbying to block the Tennessee version of the S-DMCA in 2002 on behalf of consumers and library users.

STATEMENT: As an advocate for LITA members, libraries, and library technology admins and users, I will move forward efforts re-thinking and improving how LITA disseminates our technology savvy. In addition to guiding and encouraging improvement of LITA services, LITA Board members should be aware of national and international policy debates affecting libraries, library services and library users. Some relevant policies include: personal data (privacy, protection, aggregation, and use thereof), preservation (physical, electronic, locked, obsolete technologies), orphaned works, and wiretapping. LITA should inform ALA's internal debate by keeping the Association aware of how technologies in use today could be affected, depending on the resolution of these policy debates. I will be a conduit for LITA members to inform LITA Board debate on these and other issues. May I please have your vote?
