The ALTA Literacy Award is given annually to a library trustee or an individual who in a volunteer capacity has made a significant contribution to addressing the problem of illiteracy in the United States, particularly as it relates to the role of the public library. The award is a specially prepared citation and is presented at the ALA Annual Conference.

The nomination deadline for this award has been extended to March 31, 2008.

REQUIREMENTS FOR NOMINATION INCLUDE:
o Literacy-related activities must have occurred in the same year as nomination.
o Six (6) copies of the completed nomination form and six (6) copies of supporting materials (if applicable).
