Introduction page of the ALCTS Preservation Education Directory, 8th Edition

Introduction

This directory represents the array of informal and formal preservation courses and workshops currently available in the United States and Canada. This listing is not necessarily comprehensive, since inclusion required the organizations and institutions to respond to a survey, e-mail, or phone inquiry from the compilers.

The Eighth Edition of the Preservation Education Directory is available online only through the ALA/ALCTS Web site. The decision to convert this to an electronic publication was based on the future ease of updating the information, and the availability of information about education on the Internet.

The format of entries follows fairly closely to that of the previous edition, edited by Christopher Coleman, and the pattern established by Susan Swartzburg, the editor of the first five editions. The major change in format is due to the nature of a Web-based document. The formal courses are arranged by geographic location and state, and then alphabetical by institution in the Table of Contents. The Indexes sort the entries by state and institutional name. The directory is keyword searchable through the search feature on the ALA Web site.
