June marked my one-year anniversary as the editor of ANO. In that time, I have met many of you, and have collaborated with members to provide information on programs, events, and resources that will benefit you as ALCTS members as well as information professionals.
Serving as ANO editor has been one of the highlights of my career, has given me numerous opportunities, and has enabled me to hear about the latest developments first hand. I urge you to contact me with information that you would like to share with our members. This includes announcements of awards and achievements (a member was honored in the last year by her state’s library association, for example), events (international, national, and regional), and opportunities (grants, new programs, calls for speakers). For more information on submissions and content, see ANO’s editorial policy.
Here are some highlights from this issue:
- There is a section in ANO devoted to the ALCTS 50th Anniversary Celebration. Watch this space during the year for continuing information on announcements and events celebrating the 50th Anniversary Celebration. This issue contains information on the ALCTS 50/50 Campaign and a new award honoring library leader Ross Atkinson. Watch for the announcement of the launch of the 50th Anniversary website.
- Information is available on Midwinter Meeting events, including the Midwinter 2007 Symposium “Definitely Digital: An Exploration of the Future of Knowledge on the Occasion of the 50th Anniversary of ALCTS.” There is also information on two forums (Non-English Access and the PVLR Open Forum on University Presses) plus calls for speakers for discussion and interest groups.
- Anne Sleeman has been appointed as the new Paper Series Editor, and succeeds ALCTS President-Elect Pamela Bluh. Welcome, Anne!
- Two ALCTS members have been chosen to participate in ALA President Leslie Burger’s Emerging Leaders program. Congratulations!
- Nominations are being solicited for ALCTS Awards.
- There are many volunteer opportunities available: ALA Council and Committees, Mentors for Spectrum Scholars, and ALCTS Committees.
- Read Robert Holley’s spirited “My ALCTS Experience” column. It took me back in time as I have fond memories of working on the ALCTS President’s Program during Robert’s tenure as President.
- The Task Force on Non-English Access is available for comment.
- IFLA Reports from the 2006 World Library and Information Conference, Seoul, August 20-24, 2006 are now available.
