ALCTS Seeks Web Course InstructorsALCTS seeks librarians with an acquisitions background to be trained as new ALCTS Fundamentals of Acquisitions Web course instructors. You need not have taken the course. You do, however, need enough acquisitions experience to answer students' questions and participate in live chat sessions. Interested, but unfamiliar with Web courses or unsure? Let us know and you can audit the course before deciding! What to expect as instructor:
When you volunteer to be trained as instructor, you will be teamed with an experienced instructor for a session or two or until you feel comfortable to work with other instructors. Are you interested in being an instructor? Contact Kirsten Ahlen at kahlen@ala.org or (800) 545-2433 ext. 5037. The Fundamentals of Acquisitions is the most popular ALCTS Web course to date and is routinely offered now from the ALCTS Web site. The course focuses on the basics of acquiring monographs and serials including goals and methods, financial management of materials budgets, and relationships among acquisitions librarians, library booksellers, subscription agents, and publishers. Participants receive a broad overview of the operations involved in acquiring materials after the selection decision is made. |
