Memorial Resolution Honors Ellen Rappaport

The ALCTS Board passed the following memorial resolution honoring Ellen Coolman Rappaport during Annual conference 2003 in Toronto.

Whereas, Ellen C. Rappaport, an esteemed librarian and valued member of the serials and holdings community, died at the age of fifty-eight on May 12, 2003, in Albany, New York, and

Whereas, Her career encompassed both the library and vendor arenas, including work at Syracuse University, the State University College at Cortland, and most recently as head of technical services at Albany Law School, as well as at SUNY/OCLC Library Network, OCLC, and Ameritech Information Systems, and

Whereas, Her expertise in the area of MARC Holdings led to her appointment as co-chair of the NISO Standards Committee AL that developed the ANSI/NISO Z39.71- 1999 standard Holdings Statements for Bibliographic Items, and

Whereas, She was an active participant in the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS), and particularly in the Serials Section, as a member of the Committee to Study Serials Standards; was a member of many other divisions and sections of the American Library Association (ALA); and represented the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) as liaison to Book and Serial Industry Communications (BASIC); and, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services on behalf of its members recognizes Ellen Rappaport's significant contributions to the profession of librarianship and her dedicated service to the Association; and, be it further

Resolved, That this Association expresses its sincere sympathy to her husband, Louis A. Rappaport, and to the members of her family.
