Goals for 2002 - 2003
The purpose of these goals is to support the revitalization of ALCTS Publishing, implementation of the ALCTS Publishing business plan, and further the mission of the publishing program.
- All proposals reviewed, discussed, and voted on within two weeks.
As stated in our value proposition, ALCTS Publishing provides "Timely, authoritative, reliable content that enriches the professional lives of individuals, supports organizational development, and inspires performance in the library and information services community." To facilitate quick-to-market and up-to-date products, moving proposals through the process swiftly is crucial. From the inception of a publishing project to the beginning of work on the project, proposals should not need more than one to two months to be reviewed, approved/rejected, and moved through the process.
- Review five publications from the review schedule for reissue, revision, or retirement.
A listing of all ALCTS publications was issued at Midwinter 2002. Committees at both the division and section level will select five publications from the list for review. Committees will review the publications' currency, relevance to current practices, need for updating, and viability in the profession today. After review and discussion, committees will vote to reissue, revise, or retire.
Committees will complete and submit the Publishing Project Review form for each publication to the ALCTS publications chair and ALCTS publishing coordinator in the office.
- Each publications committee reviews three proposals per year.
As outlined in the ALCTS Publishing Participants' Guide (see ALCTS publishing handbook), committee members follow section committee activities, establish relationships with other section/division committees, suggest publishing projects, and promote ALCTS publishing opportunities.
