Implementation Task Force
Task Force Roster
Charge: To develop a plan for the implementation of RDA: Resource
Description and Access in the United States. The major elements
comprising this plan should include:
- Training/continuing education activities. These may include, among
others:
- Development of live/web-based continuing education programs. An
ALCTS/PCC collaboration should be considered, but other organizations
with a stake in RDA implementation may be involved as well.
- Identification of "road show" speakers/trainers for state/regional
conferences, etc., and provision of materials for these
speakers/trainers.
- Proactive communication via the Council of Regional Groups with
affiliated technical services organizations, to plan for continuing
education and training.
- Communication with OCLC Regional Service Providers with regard to
their preferred model(s) for providing education and training to their
clients.
- Communication with LIS schools.
- Orientation and information materials aimed toward the needs of
administrators, including administrators of cataloging/bibliographic
control departments.
- Development of training materials, web-based and print.
Activities such as the above may focus on "advanced publicity" to inform
constituencies about the development process of RDA, as well as training
and education regarding RDA itself, once it appears.
- Communication with OCLC and the Library of Congress, regarding their
implementation plans with regard to both content and encoding, and
communication of these plans to the broader community.
- Consultation with colleagues involved in the implementation of AACR2,
to identify other planning/implementation needs.
- Clarify with CC:DA the process of coordination with MARBI, with
regard to potential changes to MARC associated with RDA.
The Task Force will develop an integrated timetable for the above
activities, identify persons or organizations that will take the lead
for each activity, and provide coordination as necessary through
CCS/ALCTS in collaboration with LC, PCC, OCLC, and other appropriate
bodies. It is understood that timelines will be subject to change. The
Task Force should also give consideration to a financial plan for RDA
implementation activities, including potential sources of funding.
Membership in the Task Force may include but not limited to
representatives from the Program for Cooperative Cataloging, OCLC, the
OCLC Regional Service Providers, library school faculty, the Library of
Congress, and other organizations with an interest in bibliographic
control. The ALA representative to the Joint Steering Committee may be
asked to serve as a consultant to the Task Force. Ex officio members of
the Task Force may include the Chair of CC:DA and the JSC RDA Project
Manager.
