The committee is charged with being aware of the current status of research in cataloging and classification; identifying areas where research is needed; and encouraging librarians to propose topics and problems in bibliographic control for discussion, research and action.

Charge

To be aware of the current status of research in cataloging and classification and identify areas where research is needed; to encourage librarians to propose topics and problems in bibliographic control for discussion, research and action. To coordinate the development and review of publications prior to submission to the CCS Executive Committee; to refer proposals and manuscripts approved by the CCS Executive Committee to the ALCTS Publications Committee and to expedite their progress through the publication process; to identify appropriate topics for new publications; to establish subcommittees and/or identify existing CCS units to develop guides and other publications; to serve as consultant to other CCS units that wish to prepare documents for publication; to maintain contact with and give assistance to the cataloging and classification editors of Library Resources & Technical Services and to the ALCTS Newsletter. To coordinate the work of the Research and Publications Committee with the ALCTS Committee on Research and Statistics, the ALA Research and Statistics Assembly and the ALCTS Publications Committee.
