Board of Directors
The Board of Directors provides strategic leadership for the division in advancing its mission and vision within ALA.
Board members are elected from the membership at large and from the sections and the Council of Regional Groups. Also included are ALCTS' Executive Director and four members by appointment.
The Board meets at both the ALA Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference each year. During those meetings and throughout the year, the Board :
- Engages the membership in leadership.
- Takes a division-wide perspective.
- Ensures that member viewpoints are balanced with the needs of the division.
- Encourages and facilitates the work of the sections and Board committees to achieve the division’s goals and objectives.
- Ensures the division engages in strategic planning on an ongoing basis.
- Ensures the goals and objectives in the strategic plan are met.
- Assures the division is well run and meets financial objectives.
- Appoints committees, task forces, and work groups to do the work of the division.
- In consultation with ALA, hires and evaluates the division Executive Director.
- Develops policies and procedures necessary for the operation of the division.
